AIIMS NORCET 2023 Update: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi has announced that it will be conducting the AIIMS Nursing Officer Recruitment Common Eligibility Test (NORCET) twice in the financial year 2023-24. The first recruitment drive is expected to take place in June 2023, and interested candidates must start preparing now to take advantage of this opportunity.
Details of the Meeting
A meeting (through VC) was held on 30th March 2023 with all AIIMS and three INIs (Including JIPMER, and PGIMER) under the Chairmanship of the Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to review the status of filling up the sanctioned Faculty and Non-Faculty positions as part of Mission Recruitment. During the meeting, the Director, of AIIMS, New Delhi confirmed that the NORCET Examination for nurse recruitment will be conducted twice a year from the financial year 2023-24.
Recruitment Plan and Efforts to Fill Up the Vacancies
During the meeting, it was emphasized by Secretary (HFW) that concerted efforts need to be made by all Institutes to fill up the vacancies in a mission mode and it cannot be business as usual. Human resources are critical to the functioning of any institution, and it is in the interest of the Institute to fill up all the vacancies expeditiously.

Month-wise Recruitment Plan
All AIIMS and INIs (Including JIPMER, and PGIMER) were directed to share a month-wise Recruitment Plan from April to September 2023 in respect of Faculty and Non-faculty posts with the concerned Programme Division / Coordination Division of the Ministry. It was clarified that promotional posts and those which are to be filled up through NORCET are to be shown separately.
NORCET Examination in June 2023
As per the meeting, AIIMS, New Delhi was advised to make all possible efforts for early declaration of the NORCET result so that the nursing vacancies can be filled up latest by August-September 2023. This means the first recruitment may conduct probably in June 2023.
Non-Faculty Positions and Recruitment Rules
On specific queries made by a few AIIMS, it was clarified that, for filling up various posts of Non-Faculty positions, the approved Recruitment Rules of 2015 may be used with the approval of their respective Institute/Governing Bodies. It was also made clear by the Chairperson that no separate clarification will be issued by the Ministry in this regard.
What is AIIMS NORCET?
AIIMS NORCET is a national-level exam conducted by AIIMS, New Delhi for the recruitment of nursing officers in AIIMS and other leading medical institutions across the country. It is a single-stage exam that is held online, and the results are usually declared within a month of the exam date.
Recruitment Pattern
The recruitment pattern for AIIMS NORCET involves a written test, which is a computer-based test (CBT). The exam is conducted for 3 hours and consists of 200 multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Eligibility
To be eligible for the AIIMS NORCET exam, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- They must have completed their B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing/ B.Sc. Nursing/Post-Basic B.Sc. Nursing from a recognized institute.
- They must be registered as a Nurse or Midwife with the State Nursing Council.
OR
- Diploma in General Nursing Midwifery (GNM)
- Registered as Nurse & Midwife with State / Indian Nursing Council
- Two years of experience in a minimum 50 bedded hospital after acquiring essential criteria and being valid
- They must be between the ages of 18 and 30 years.
Exam Pattern and Syllabus
The AIIMS NORCET exam consists of 200 MCQs, each carrying one mark. The exam is divided into four parts:
- Duration of CBT Exam: 180 minutes (3 hours)
- Total No. of Questions: 200 MCQs (Nursing Subjects: 180 MCQs + General Knowledge and Aptitude: 20 MCQs)

- Negative Marking: 1/3 for each wrong answer
