NIMHANS Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services has recently relocated to a new building opposite the State Bank of India within the NIMHANS Campus. Rehabilitation involves the process of restoring someone’s health or normal life through training and therapy after imprisonment, addiction, or illness.

NIMHANS is the only department in the country that offers super-specialty rehabilitation services in the form of Neurological Rehabilitation. The Department of Psychiatric and Neuro Rehabilitation Center at NIMHANS offers various tests and services, including Behavioral Interventions, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Functions, Cognitive Potentials, Cognitive Retraining (Hospital and Home-based), Counseling, Diagnostic Clarification, Family or Couple Therapy, General Assessment, Individual Psychotherapy/Counseling, Initial Evaluation/Intake for Individual Therapies, Neurofeedback Training, Neuropsychological Assessment, Personality and Interpersonal Relationships, Specific Functions, and Specific Learning Abilities.

The department also offers several facilities like Urodynamic Laboratory, Gait Analysis Laboratory, Musculoskeletal Ultrasound, Hand Robot, Computer-based Cognitive Assessment and Training, Virtual Reality, Orthotic Section, and Neurodevelopmental Therapy.

NIMHANS emphasizes recovery-oriented services (ROSeS) in psychiatric rehabilitation, which aims to promote recovery beyond just the alleviation of symptoms of psychiatric disorders. The team provides multidisciplinary interventions to help clients and their families overcome difficulties related to maintaining an active lifestyle, activities of daily living, problem behaviors, socializing with others, regaining self-confidence and initiative, vocational counseling and training, and availing disability benefits.

The emphasis in psychiatric rehabilitation has shifted from “just keeping patients occupied” to “recovery for community reintegration”. Hence, we consider our services to be “Recovery Oriented Services (ROSeS)
